Softball takes series over Alabama, football offers 2025 RB

It was a pretty good weekend for the Auburn softball team. Their series against rival Alabama started Thursday evening with a 4-3 win over the Tide and a solid pitching performance from right-hander Maddie Penta.

Friday’s game was tough and lasted eleven innings, but in the end the Tigers trailed 0-2 in the second game of the series. But Auburn rallied when it mattered, beating Alabama 3-0 on Saturday behind the arm of Annabelle Widra. who pitched her first shutout in SEC play. She recorded a season-high seven strikeouts and the Tigers had six hits in the game.

Next up for Auburn softball is the SEC tournament, which will be hosted this week starting Tuesday, May 7 on the Jane B. Moore field.

Recruiting for Auburn football continues as the team prepares for summer workouts. Auburn football this weekend running backs coach Derrick Nix headed to Georgia to visit three-star running back J.P. Powell and personally present him with an offer from the Tigers.

RB recruitment has increased lately, with offers from Ole Miss, Florida State, Mississippi State and others in addition to Auburn Football. He plans to officially visit Georgia Tech and Mississippi State this summer and a trip to the Plains is planned.

“I’m definitely looking forward to visiting Auburn,” Powell said, according to Auburn Rivals. “That’s a school that’s somewhat close to home that I haven’t visited yet… they have a great reputation as an institution.”

With offers still coming for Powell, there is no timeline for his decision, but Derrick Nix keeps the Tigers at the top of the list for the 2025 running back.
