Chiefs Hype Xavier Worthy’s ‘Speed You Can Feel’ and ‘Toughness’

The Kansas City Chiefs added more speed to this year’s NFL draft, landing Texas well over Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick in the first round.

The selection evoked memories of the former Patrick Mahomes-Tyreek Hill pairing in Kansas City, with the latter terrorizing secondary players both over the top as a deep threat and as an RAC monster given his blazing speed and agility.

Worthy turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine by running the 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported during Sunday’s game Sports Center that the Chiefs believe he’s more than just a good time on the stopwatch:

“As someone from the team told me: Xavier Worthy has speed that you can ‘feel’, but they also love the footballer, so they are happy to have him in the attack and get him on the pitch. Now, Worthy , I’m told, part of his focus is to get his weight up a bit. He told reporters in Kansas City in the 160s that he wanted to get closer to 175. The Chiefs don’t just like what he does. on the track, they also like what he can do on the pitch and especially his toughness, so this is a player who needs to see the pitch straight away.”

The wide receiver position was a major weakness for the Chiefs last season (though it didn’t stop them from winning a Super Bowl). So this offseason, the team arrived at the position and added a pair of speedy options in Worthy and Marquise Brown.

Rashee Rice’s future is unknown given his legal troubles, but it’s possible the team could have a very nice trio heading into the 2024 campaign alongside future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce at the end. Mahomes has to be happy with the priority placed on acquiring more playmakers this offseason.
