DURHAM, NC – In the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament, third-seeded Virginia Tech softball fell 6-2 to sixth-seeded Georgia Tech on Thursday at Duke Softball Stadium. While the Hokies entered the tournament ranked in the top three of division one in scoring, home runs and slugging percentage, Virginia Tech’s offense was flat.

The Yellow Jackets (32-22) got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. The Hokies (39-12-1) answered in the bottom of the third inning, when left fielder Addy Greene hit a sacrifice fly and center fielder Emma Ritter scored. But Georgia Tech scored five unanswered before a solo home run by Ritter in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ritter, who was named first-team All-ACC earlier this week, finished with a team-high three hits and recorded a home run, triple and a single. Pitcher Lyndsey Grein (12-4) started for the Hokies, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out five while allowing two runs. Pitchers Emma Mazzarone and Emma Lemsley also entered the circle.
