Michigan man charged in fatal Macomb County collision

MACOMB COUNTY, MI – A 35-year-old Warren man has been charged in connection with a fatal collision.

Savion Jones is accused of striking and killing 65-year-old James Suveges with his Dodge RAM on 11 Mile Road near Hoover Road on May 4.

Suveges was walking in the crosswalk, officials said. Jones stopped briefly at the scene, but when other vehicles stopped to assist, he left, according to prosecutors.

Jones was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury or death, a five-year felony. He is also charged as a habitual offender.

“A collision is not just an accident; it is a deliberate act of callousness. When a driver chooses to flee rather than render aid, he compounds his guilt with cowardice, destroying lives,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Jones was arraigned in 37th Warren District Court by Judge Michael Chupa. Bail was set at $200,000.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for May 23 at 9:30 a.m.
