KENNEBUNK – A festive parade turned into a chaotic scene Saturday when an antique vehicle suddenly lurched forward, pinning several people against a float on Water Street.

The incident occurred as participants were preparing to start the parade.

The vehicle, which was part of the procession, accelerated unexpectedly and collided with a trailer used as a float carrying numerous children.

The accident injured three adults, two of whom suffered significant lower extremity injuries.

Although several children suffered bumps and bruises, no serious injuries were reported among them.

Kennebunk Fire-Rescue (KFR), Kennebunk Police Department (KPD) and the City of Kennebunk have all expressed hope for a quick and full recovery for the injured.

Officials also expressed their gratitude to the bystanders who helped manage the situation and care for the patients until emergency services arrived.

Among those offering their assistance were two Physician Assistants who played a critical role in caring for one of the more seriously injured patients.

The rapid response of the KFR and the KPD, including both crew members on duty and those participating in the parade, was crucial in effectively addressing the emergency.

Additional support was provided by Kennebunkport EMS and Arundel Fire-Rescue, who responded with additional ambulances to assist at the scene.

The cause of the antique car’s failure is currently under investigation and further details will be released as they become available.
