In his May 5 letter to the editor, Kirk Rowe was pessimistic about the success of the Brightline high-speed rail project from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga. He compared it to California’s high-speed rail project that was first approved in 2008 and was supposed to be completed in 2020, yet appears to be on schedule and who knows when — if ever.

However, Mr Rowe misses one important point. Brightline will be operated by a private company that previously built a high-speed rail line in Florida. The California project, meanwhile, is being run, reimagined, gamed, revised, started, stopped, over-regulated, mismanaged, and run into the ground by the bureaucrats of the great state of California.

There is no comparison; I’d bet on Brightline. If they fail to do so, it will only be because the great state of California stood in the way.
