Meghan Markle wears ‘Windsor’ dress during trip to Nigeria, drawing chatters online

Meghan Markle has become the talk of the town after she wore a beige-colored backless dress ironically named ‘Windsor’ during her recent visit to Nigeria with Prince Harry.

The dress was designed by California-based Heidi Merrick and the name of the outfit is called “Windsor Gown–Blush,” according to the designer’s official website. Interestingly, Windsor is the surname of the British Royal Family and is named after the royal residence.

Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan Markle, 42, arrived in Nigeria on Friday at the invitation of the country’s top military official, the chief of the defense staff, The New York Post report said.

The couple said goodbye to the royal family in 2020 and moved to the US. Meghan Markle’s choice of clothing has sparked debate among people, with some interpreting it as a strategic move to forge ties with the Windsor name, while others are calling it a subtle jab at the royal family.

When photos from the couple’s Nigeria trip surfaced on social media, eagle-eyed users noticed Meghan Markle’s ‘Windsor’ dress.

“Meghan Markle desperately wants to have ties to the Windsor name. Her strategic marriage and non-strategic moves since then have backfired. Like a dress with the name gives her the legitimacy that continues to elude her!” someone wrote on X.

Another wrote: “But they’ve tried to completely erase the Windsors from their lives, but here comes Mrs. Sussex in a dress called ‘Windsor’, haha!! Even Mr. and Mrs. Sussex realize they are nothing without the real Windsors.”

A third tweeted: “Did she really choose a dress called the Windsor Dress or are you being cheeky for fun?”

However, some users supported Meghan Markle’s choice of dress.

“Honestly I think people are reading too much into it. She’s wearing a dress and suddenly it’s a secret message? Maybe she just liked the dress,” one user tweeted.

Another person said: “Meghan is beautiful.”

In 2018, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, west of Buckingham Palace. They stayed at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate before stepping back from their royal duties and moving to California in 2020.
