A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 60 months in prison for drug trafficking, possession and possession of a firearm.

Guilty

Joshua Hopkins of South Portland will also serve four years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty on February 21, 2024.

The wanted man had an active arrest warrant

Hopkins had an active warrant when police arrested him at a South Portland hotel in April 2023, court records said.

Evidence of drug trafficking and property seized

Officers searched the backpack he was carrying and seized multiple scales, a single 7.62mm x 39mm round of ammunition, a blender containing suspected fentanyl powder, smaller containers containing additional suspected fentanyl powder, bags of suspected cocaine and what appeared to be a substance used to ‘cut’ drugs.

Suspect supplied drugs

Another man who was with the suspect said Hopkins had supplied him with drugs. He also told police that Hopkins had a gun in his car.

Rifle and ammunition found in vehicle

Officers found a black Norinco SKS-style rifle in the vehicle. The ammunition in the backpack matched the caliber of the rifle. Hopkins is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to prior felony convictions, according to court documents.
