According to Groton police, 43-year-old Randall Clark and 30-year-old Dustin Hibbert were taken into custody after the altercation around 1 p.m.

Police said Clark, of Medford, Massachusetts, and Hibbert, of Bridgeport, got into a physical altercation on the sidelines of a youth sporting event.

Clark then “returned to his vehicle and retrieved what spectators believed were two firearms, causing panic among the crowd and sending hundreds of players and spectators fleeing the park in all directions,” police said. Despite initial reports of shots fired, police confirmed that Clark had not fired any gunshots.

Police added that they were unable to find the two firearms allegedly displayed during the fight.

Clark was charged with second-degree breach of peace, risk of injury to minors, first-degree menacing, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm with intent to display and carrying a firearm without a license. Clark’s bond was set at $20,000, according to police.

Police said Hibbert was charged with second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to minors with bail set at $2,500.

The incident is still under investigation.
