SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we’ve rounded up the stories you might have missed on Saturday and Sunday to help you get ready for Monday.

But before we dive into Southern California’s top stories, residents should know that a warming trend is expected this week, according to the National Weather Service.


“Gradually warming conditions expected through the week,” NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. “Periods of gusty westerly winds are expected in the afternoon and evening in the mountains and deserts early this week, with potential for offshore winds on Wednesday. Warmer and dry conditions are expected into next weekend.”

In other news, police cleared a pro-Palestinian protest camp at the University of Southern California over the weekend. The move to clear the camp followed intimidation, mutilation, theft of university property, the dismantling of commencement structures, noise pollution during final exams and outside agitators jumping the fence and attacking school officers, USC President Carol Folt said.

Three bodies recovered from a 50-foot well in Baja California were identified as a man from San Diego and two brothers from Australia, according to reports. According to reports, the trio were killed by thieves who wanted their truck tires. According to the Associated Press, the pit also contained a fourth body that had been there much longer.

A man has drowned in an Orange County lake, authorities said. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Underwater Search and Recovery Team found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven men were injured when at least two gunmen opened fire in the parking lot of a Long Beach nightclub. Police are calling the shooting a gang-related attack.

Additionally, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California travel spending reached an all-time high of $150.4 billion in 2023, surpassing the previous record of $144.9 billion in 2019. The state has retained its title as the world’s fifth-largest economy and is growing in population, the governor said.
