As you prepare for the season 6 finale The neighbourhood on CBS later tonight, know this: There’s a spinoff coming soon too!

Today, Paramount+ (per Deadline) announced an upcoming show set in the same universe as the title Stool, which will star the incomparable Tracy Morgan. We must take into account that we have the Saturday Night Live / 30 Rock alum on the CBS show in the past, but here he’ll be playing a completely different character.

In a statement, The neighbourhood star/executive producer Cedric the Entertainer said the following about the new show:

“I’m glad we got our The Neighborhood universe by producing a show with legendary comedian Tracy Morgan… This new character is the close cousin of my character Calvin Butler, and you’ll enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a tell-it-like-it-is widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren have to move back home, and let’s just say there will be several comedic complications are.

The news of this spinoff is further evidence that CBS and/or Paramount are quite committed to the original sitcom, which is good to know considering that season 7 is coming this fall and around this point the shows usually start dropping . questionable news about their future. Overall, CBS has canceled or ended a number of other shows lately Bob Hearts Abishola or NCIS: Hawaii, both of which will apparently end their runs a little later tonight.

We wouldn’t be shocked if Morgan comes on board as this character at some point in season 7. After all, it would be a smart and easy way to advertise the new show and we’re sure the network would love nothing more than to get buzz in advance.

What do you think of this spin-off? The neighbourhood are you coming to Paramount+?
